2回目の課題は「difficult を使わずに話す」
1) be hard = difficult
2) be tough = very difficult
3) challenging = 難しいけれど、興味を持って楽しく挑戦できる
4) demanding = requiring a lot of effort
5) tricky = difficult to dealt with
6) complex = difficult to understand, not simple
7) complicated = difficult to understand
8) no walk in the park ⇔ a walk in the park
9) to jump through hoops または hoops to jump through = 何かを達成するために数々の面倒くさいことをすること
Examples and Tips
個人的には、be challenging が単純に難しいことを表すだけではない単語であることに驚きました。このあたりの細かいニュアンスの違いもしっかりと頭に入れて試験対策していきたいです。
また、9) の表現は少し本題から外れている気もしますが、easy ではないという状況を表せそうなので加えてみました。
I need to jump through a lot of hoops to get a high score on IELTS.
I have countless hoops to jump through to get a high score on IELTS.
※ many, a lot of の代わりに countless を使って多様なボキャブラリーを使えるスキルをアピールしてみました(笑)
あとは、コロケーションをしっかりとマスターしなくては！せっかく単語を覚えてもコロケーションを間違ってしまったら speaking & writing のネイティブ度が下がってしまいますもんね。もったいない！
