映画「ドリーム(Hidden Figures)」より ~ "to segregate" "segregation"

お盆休み中、「ドリーム(Hidden Figures)」という映画を見ました。

人種差別意識の根強い南部バージニア州で

ソビエト連邦（現在のロシア）とアメリカの宇宙開発競争に貢献した

黒人女性3人の奮闘を描いた映画です。

オクタヴィア・スペンサーやジム・パーソンズが出演していたり、

キャサリンを演じた女優さんのインタビューを聞いたりしていたので、

もともと興味はあったのですが、

私個人としては大満足の映画でした。

そこで、今日の単語の覚書は "to segregate" "segregation"。

人種差別を意味するネガティブな単語です。

アメリカ人に聞いたのですが、

アメリカ南部では人種差別の意識がいまだに強いのだそうです。

　Especially in America down-south, even today, there is still a lot of “segregation”.

また、アパルトヘイトが行われていた時代の南アフリカに幼少期に住んだことがある人はこんなことを言っていました。

　South Africa used to be separated into black people and white people.

　Black children and white children couldn’t go to the same school. Black people and white people couldn’t live in the same area. In the park, there were black benches and white benches. We couldn’t sit on the same bench.

　Mandela came out of prison. In 1994, he became the new president. It was very good because black and white people came together.

　Sadly, after he died, it’s still the beautiful country, but crime rates are very high. Many black people don’t have education, so they can’t get a job, but they need money. They do a lot of stealing and stuff like that.

差別、偏見、イジメ。。。

この世から無くなることはないだろうから

私も意思をもって強く生きねば！
